Olympics in Vancouver, BC

February 28, 2010

A few images from our last week away. It couldn’t have been more beautiful up there for the Olympics– unless you actually had to ski! We had a great time touring the city with a fabulous guide. We ate breakfast at Granville Island, saw the mayhem on Saturday night at Robson and Granville, and witnessed the true Canadian love for hockey when the USA beat them (the first time). And the wait at the border was no more than 5 minutes in either direction. (Although, I must admit that I panic crossing the border and ALWAYS spew out the wrong information when I am trying to be succinct and clear with the border patrol guy. This time, when asked where we were going, instead of saying “Vancouver, to stay with a friend,” I blurted out “B.C.” …Duh.)

We bookended that trip with a few days in Seattle to visit friends and family, including a one-night stay at the beach in Washington to dig razor clams– we left just as the tsunami warnings were circulating up and down the Washington and Oregon coastlines. I dug my limit– not bad for having to squeeeeze myself into my waders and get down on one knee to fight with the little suckers (and then back up!) Our mini-babymoon couldn’t have been better spent.

Today the sun was shining at home and I opened all the windows for the first time to air out the joint. I love this time of year– when the sun is the most amazing thing in months. But this year, spring brings an even bigger surprise.

Thanks for sharing your nice pics Britni – we enjoyed a very nice meal at Granville Is. when we were there in Sept. as we headed across Canada by train. Good to give the little guy a taste for international travel!
