first, the bad and the ugly.

February 25, 2010

Before anyone else can tell you the story… I will just share another of the joys of pregnancy.

I have never known heartburn until just last week. It’s a horrible feeling where your throat burns and all the water in the world, be it hot, cold, with lemon, with ice, or even dumped straight into the back of your throat, still doesn’t make it go away.

So, I thought I would outsmart this one. What yummy treat counteracts the stomach acids rising through my throat? Well, a milkshake, of course. We learned the basics in high school chemistry. To neutralize the acids I needed a base… with chocolate and oreos to help it go down.

All was well. Momentarily. Then, out of nowhere, I started to choke and cough on a small chunk of the world’s favorite sandwich cookie. And here’s where it gets ugly. I coughed and lost all control of my bladder. In awkward little spurts. There I was: walking along, crying, laughing, coughing and begging Dustin to tell me you couldn’t tell (We both knew you could…) He was a bit incredulous as he watched the whole thing unfold and now thinks it’s the funniest opening to any conversation as we travel around, visiting family this week.

If you can’t laugh at yourself, I assume this whole process would be almost unbearable.

I am now getting to the point where my belly is rapidly expanding and all the big fun is still just around the corner.

Wish me luck. Or send me a clean pair of pants.

The joys of pregnancy 😛 The costco sized bottle of Tums will quickly become your best friend! Apparently, milk will make the heartburn feel better temporarily but as it is digested actually turns into an acid in the stomach and makes it worse…

I know– I think it was really just a ploy to justify the milkshake to myself. It TOTALLY backfired! The Tums currently have taken up residence in my bag…

So… I found your blog and must say that pregnancy sounds quite lovely and I just can’t wait to experience these joys first hand:)You are funny though and it is actually great to know what pregnancy really will be like!
I am so excited for you both and can’t wait to meet baby Jessup. I was reading some of your past posts and I completely agree about the toy issue. Too many toys deplete imgination and make-believe. I see this in my classroom each and every day. Very sad.
Congrats on taking a photography class! Don’t you love it?? I am seriously obsessed and just can’t get enough. I love being able to capture the same moments in life, but in a prettier way.
Wish we were closer so we could go to lunch…I miss BALM!!!
Love you friend and am so happy for you!

Oh man! So glad you can laugh about it. Time to start wearing Depends, eh? Just when it seemed like your pregnancy was amazingly smooth and easy…

Wow so that is hilarious! I have a similar story but hmmm….well I’ll let u decide. So Scott and I decided to go out on a date night when I was pregnant with elliette, and Guinevere went with her dad for the weekend. We decided on The Boulevard. So as we make our way in who is waiting to be seated but Guinevere and her dad! Weird coincidence. So long story short I like food and am pretty sure I ate way to fast cause about 2 min after I inhaled my food I was running full speed to the bathroom….(u can guess why) so as I was standing above the toilet I felt what I thought was just back splash…..oops it wasn’t. So as if I wasn’t panicking enough I hear a little voice from under the stall saying mommy? Mommy is that u? Followed by, why r u washing your tights in the sink?….hahah lol

Oh geez! You have me beat. I think it would have been worse if I’d been caught and not told on myself! Kids are good for that, right? Calling you out when you do (or don’t) need it! Hope all is well and hope to see you soon!
